What's the story behind Porsche's first production car, 1948? Designer Ferry Porsche explained the idea. "I saw that if you had enough power in a small car, it is nicer to drive than if you have a big car which is also overpowered. And it is more fun. On this basic idea, we started the first Porsche prototype". And remember the name Erwin Komenda - the little known Porsche employee who designed the 356's body. In so doing, he launched the defining iconic profile of Porsche. Clean in detail and line, a simple fastback, a single curve from top of the windscreen back to the rear. Over the next 5 years, it won its class at Le Mans and began to build a legend based on aesthetic beauty, reliability, engineering excellence, and sporty performance. Porsche was under way.
